Journeying to Self-Love

August 01, 20222 min read

I marvel over the learning that has unfolded for me over the years. There was a time I didn’t recognize the beauty within the change and the growth that materializes when we allow the change to take place.

The journey to creating my course My Positive Voice began when I actually realized that there is no way to change anyone and having expectations of another, were just that, my expectations and not theirs. When I finally understood this, (which didn’t happen overnight), it was a process of sorting through what I actually wanted for myself and how I wanted to be treated. I had to come to terms with not everyone is for me.

As hard as it was to verbalize that truth, I knew I had to let go and allow love to comfort me. That love came in the form of self-love. I was amazed that once I acknowledged the need for self-love, things and opportunities were presented to me. I made the choice to step into my fear and move toward learning to put myself first.

We all know what the flight attendants tell us, ‘put on your mask first, before you can help another.’ Such a great rule to follow in life. We need to put ourselves first; not in a selfish way, but one of love. It is then that we are able to help another.

When I started this journey, I had no confidence, I had been worn down, I was feeling defeated, and my voice was silenced, but my desire for change pushed me to move forward; keeping me from slipping into a depressive heap in my bedroom.

Over the years, I have realized the importance of treating myself like a dear friend. I check up on her daily. I constantly monitor how I am feeling and then adjust my schedule, and rituals to fit my needs. This ensures I show up to be my best self. Do I slip? Yep, but not for long.

My self check rituals allow me to identify almost immediately when I am taking a step back allowing me to engage one of my strategies, helping me to realign and get back on track. One of my daily rituals is to give gratitude. Sounds simple enough, but to get to a place of recognizing it in everything I see and do was a process that actually changed my life.

Change is inevitable, will you allow growth to occur with the changes that are presented in your life?

If you need some help, consider working with me or taking my course. https://mypositivevoice.com/
