If you hear the term squirrel in a conversation,
it’s likely that someone has lost focus, is restless or even neglecting the main subject.
Squirrels are an interesting mammal to say the least.
While watching squirrels, you may find them chasing each other, jumping from tree to tree,
spinning around shrubs, biting each other in the butt, or clearing a space to settle territorial disputes.
They are bold, aggressive, high energy and sociable.
Like humans some are more outgoing and others are more shy.
Some can smell food under a foot of snow.
A squirrel may seem to be flashing his pearly whites at you, but did you know that this rodent’s front teeth never stop growing.
Watching them zig zag their way around my backyard, is actually their way of keeping safe.
I will often see them weaving back and forth to escape an aggressor or predator.
Their ability to jump from tree to tree 10 feet in the air and grasp onto a thin branch leaves me breathless on the edge of my seat.
They are so acrobatic; hanging upside down on feeders, walking the high electrical wire suspended in air, scampering tall buildings in a couple of bounds.
Truly amazing. Their little hands and bushy tails are adorable.
How I came to learn so much about squirrels, is my observation.
To help with my “squirrel” mind, I learned to appreciate the squirrel.
Sitting watching these adorable creatures lets me stay in the moment.
My focus is on nothing else except the amusement I receive in the squirrel watching moment.
My mind is clear, I breathe easy and my mind is diverted of all the stresses, responsibilities and worries that may be thrown at me.
I revel in the moment and feel at peace.
There are many strategies I use to bring my focus to the here and now, but watching nature is a sure fire way to bring me to calmness.
Helping me to be ready to face my day with a mind that is harmonious with the way I want to feel.
I can think more clearly, I am happier, and my day is always better.
